Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story | Rotten Tomatoes (1) Inkoo Kang New Yorker The astoundingly prolific showrunner melds his modes as provocateur and clumsy social-justice warrior, with mixed results. Oct 8, 2024 Full Review Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story | Rotten Tomatoes (2) Craig Mathieson The Age (Australia) The second season of Ryan Murphy’s biographical crime anthology literally doesn’t know when to stop. If you want to credit this to ambition, then there are rewards... but if you lean towards lurid excess, Monsters certainly incriminates itself. Rated: 2.5/5 Sep 27, 2024 Full Review Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story | Rotten Tomatoes (3) Dan Einav Financial Times Monsters proves itself capable of confronting a complex case with sensitivity — which makes its increasing sensationalism and salaciousness all the more frustrating. Rated: 3/5 Sep 27, 2024 Full Review Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story | Rotten Tomatoes (4) Hannah Brown Jerusalem Post While the Menendez brothers’ story is undeniably interesting, I found the characters were all people I didn’t want to spend time with, whether or not there was a miscarriage of justice. Leona S I am watching this for a 2nd time in case I missed something 1st time round. I found the series brilliantly portrayed with great acting, but by the end I didn’t like the disturbing effect it had on me. I actually felt sorry for the 2 cold blooded killers. The sad music at the end “You’re Dream is Over” made me feel even more emotional when they were being driven to the other prisons in 2 separate vehicles. These 2 lovely looking boys weren’t given the death sentence because the jury were not 100% sure if their claims of being sexually assaulted by their Dad were true or not and I felt the same. No one will ever know. The brothers were so close that I think keeping them apart in prison for 22 years was punishment enough. I’m glad they are together now. Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/13/24 Full Review Katie L Some of the actors were good but other than that, I can't say much good about this show. Really disappointed that this show had the opportunity to take a case about sexual abuse and add a false, overdramatized Hollywood spin. To Netflix and the creators of thus show: you should be ashamed of yourselves! Rated 1/5 Stars • Rated 1 out of 5 stars 10/13/24 Full Review Esteban C so this happened! i don’t fucking care if the facts are not entirely verified, i’m choosing to believe this one hell of a story, with one hell of a cast! the cinematography capture the essence of the 1980 - 1990s LA perfectly, the actors became their characters in such a way, and the whole intriguing, mysterious and raw plot made me want to watch the next episode asap. fuck jose and kitty, justice for lyle and eric and all my praises to leslie abramson!psdt: obsessed with their outfits, with milli vanilli and the boys themselves!!! Rated 4/5 Stars • Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/12/24 Full Review Cynthia P The acting was amazing. Cooper Koch in episode 5 was truly incredible and moving. If you listen to the Netflix documentary and compare this depiction by Ryan Murphy it’s not that much different, with the exception of Dunne’s account. I highly recommend. Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/12/24 Full Review avery h this show is almost laughable. to be released at the same time as a documentary accounting for the real victims perspectives as well as those of their family completely discredited half of the information portrayed in this series. to have victims of sexual assault who suffered at the hand of both their mother and father for years is incredibly harmful and may cause anxiety in viewers who have experienced a similar trauma; now feeling as though if they came forward with their story nobody would believe them. i’m my opinion this show needs to be removed off of netflix. let’s stop telling victims stories without their consent, especially if it is to be a series defending the assaulter. Rated 0.5/5 Stars • Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 10/12/24 Full Review Jennifer G I feel that the way they portrayed these men is damaging to so many victims. It puts why people don't do or say anything about sexual abuse especially boys in the spotlight but not in an empowering way. It basically mocks them and what they went through. No victim of sexual assault should have to be told over and over they are lying. Rated 1/5 Stars • Rated 1 out of 5 stars 10/11/24 Full Review Read all reviews
